From Zero to 100: Anxiety-Free Ways to Generate Ideas in Writing College Essays

I had a friend when I was a kid who had Japanese fighting fish. One night, during a sleepover party at her house, one of them devoured the other.
I remember staring at them for a long time before hitting the sack — their fancy, elaborate blue fins like diaphanous curtains swaying this way and that in the clear, illuminated water of the fish tank.
We went to sleep and they were fine. We woke up and remnants of blue were floating in the murky water of the tank.
Apparently, Japanese fighting fish will devour each other if left to their own devices, but will die of loneliness if made to live in total isolation. (Isn’t that just like any close relationship? You can’t live with it. You can’t without it?)
To keep Japanese fighting fish, you must put up a glass barrier so that they can see each other, but will not eat each other alive.
So it is with The Creator and The Critic.
If you let them near each other, the critic will ALWAYS win. It will, in fact, devour that small, still voice within.
The creative voice, in most of us anyway, is like a gossamer thread in a field of snow.
It must be cultivated and protected. Don’t let the INNER CRITIC near it, especially when writing something as important, and therefore, “critical,” as the College Essay.
Freewriting is a way to tame the beast.
After all, in a freewrite, there’s no need for structure or organization; you don’t need to know what you’re talking about; you don’t need to spell things correctly; you don’t need to begin, progress and conclude. All you need to do is write your little heart out - in FULL sentences. It’s a kind of focused stream-of-consciousness. That is, you write as much as you can, as fast as you can, without attention to organization or grammar — but you write it on the subject you have identified.
In an essay entitled “To See Your Story Clearly, Start by Pulling the Wool Over Your Own Eyes,” Kent Haruf describes it like this:
I remove my glasses, pull a stocking cap down over my eyes and type the first draft single-spaced… in the actual and metaphorical darkness behind my closed eyes, trying to avoid being distracted by syntax or diction or punctuation or grammar or spelling or word choice of anything else that would block the immediate delivery of the story.
I write an entire scene or section on one side of one page, in a very concentrated and incomplete way. I’m trying to avoid allowing the analytical part of my mind into the process too soon. Instead, I’m trying to stay in touch with subliminal, subconscious impulses and to get the story down in some spontaneous way.
From the FreeWrite, you can do the job of search and rescue: Excavating and Organizing.
You’ll get good at this if you keep doing it.
When you do get good, don’t get seduced into thinking you can skip this step.
Or let’s put it this way, when in doubt, FREEWRITE!

Islam - Essay - Fundamentals and History

There are few people on earth today who have not heard something about Islam. Islam is one of the most prominent religions in the world today with at least 750 million people practicing. Islam is a voluntary relationship between an individual and his creator. Islam emerged in Arabia during the early 7th century. Islam means “submission” in Arabic, which is the basis for the religion—-submitting to the Will of God. Islamic religion is formed on the foundations of Islamic life, variety and unity is Islam, and Islam and its nonbelievers. The Islamic people had a new faith in their religion and kept their hopes high to conquer and spread the religion. They changed the society that was used across the lands and brought a new religion that would keep the people high in assurance that they’ll always have a good spirit.
The foundations of Islamic life are based on a sacred text called the Qu’ran. The Qu’ran is a record of the exact words revealed by God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad. The Qu’ran is the prime source of every Muslims’ faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern us as human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, and law, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and his creatures. At the same time it provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and an equitable economic system. From the time the Qu’ran was revealed, until this day there has always been a large number of Muslims who have memorized all of the Qu’ran, letter by letter. Not one letter of the Qu’ran has been changed over the centuries.
Another source for the basis of Islamic life is al-Hadith, or sunnah. This is a vast body of transmitted stories and sayings attributed to the Prophet and his comparisons. Unlike the Qu’ran, these stories are not assembled in a single, absolutely accepted text. There are actually many collections of Hadith. Over time, during the first few centuries of Islam, it became obvious that many so-called hadith were in fact spurious sayings that had been fabricated for various motives, at best to encourage believers to act righteously and at worse to corrupt believers’ understanding of Islam and to lead them astray. Since Islamic legal scholars were utilizing hadith as an adjunct to the Qu’ran in their development of the Islamic legal system, it became critically important to have reliable collections of hadith. While the early collections of hadith often contained hadith that were of questionable origin, gradually collections of authenticated hadith called sahih were compiled. Such collections were made possible by the development of the science of hadith criticism, a science at the basis of which was a critical analysis of the chain of (oral) transmission (isnad) of the hadith going all the way back to Muhammad. The two most highly respected collections of hadith are the authenticated collections the Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. In addition to these, four other collections came to be well respected, although not to the degree of Bukhari and Muslim’s sahih collections. These four other collections are the Sunan of Tirmidhi, Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and Abu Da’ud. Together these four and the two sahih collections are called the “six books” (al-kutub al-sitta). Two other important collections, in particular, are the Muwatta of Ibn Malik, the founder of the Maliki School of law, and the Musnad of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, the founder of the Hanbali School of law.
The third source that provides an important basis for the faith is the biography of the Prophet of God—-Muhammad. Muhammad ibnu Abdillah was born in Mecca in the year 569 CE. Orphaned at an early age, Muhammad was cared for by his uncle. He earned his living as a trader and a Shepard among the Bedouins, and was known by his people as al-amin (the trustworthy one). When he was 25, he married Khadija. When Muhammad reached the age of 40, the angel Gabriel came to him with revelations that established his prophethood. Muhammad was first ordered to instruct his immediate family on Islam, including his beloved wife Khadija, but eventually it was revealed to him that he should begin delivering the message to all of mankind. In the next 20 years of his life, he communicated the message of Allah to his people, and set an example for how each human being should lead her or his life. This is especially valuable since Muhammad is the last Prophet of Allah. In the year 632, the year of his death, the Prophet delivered his famous last sermon.

Writing a Good Essay - Support

The first part of my articles on SAT test preparation for Essay writing focused on the importance of structure of an essay. Continuing on the journey, we will talk about the second aspect of writing a good essay. Test makers as well as graders are always on the lookout for an essay that presents statements that support the idea. Just as a skyscraper is built on a strong foundation, an essay is constructed on a solid support. Just writing an idea that is capturing is not enough; you need to support your idea.
The Wheel Theory
A wheel of a car has generally four spokes. Consider each spoke as a point of the essay outline. If you miss any spoke of the wheel, the car would not run properly. Hence, your essay should incorporate all four points in the best possible manner.
The first paragraph of your essay should support the main idea of thesis statement. A thesis statement expresses the main idea of the whole essay. A thesis statement is important as it gives you the direction to focus on the main idea, from beginning to the end.
How to create a powerful thesis statement? The best way to do this is to convert the essay prompt into a thesis statement. A well-written thesis statement would work like a wheel for the entire essay- all four factors would be covered. The starting sentences of the second to the fourth paragraph would support your thesis statement. It would be apt to say that the entire essay would try to support the thesis statement. There are two steps involved in converting a question prompt into a thesis statement:
Step1: Reading the prompt carefully
Step2: Using a firm statement to change the prompt.
Let me explain this with an example. Suppose the question prompt says- why do you like chocolates? You can use the thesis statement- I have a number of reasons to love chocolates. Thesis statements must be direct and focused. They should act like a wheel to frame the entire essay. They should be used to address a specific idea, in a clear way. Paragraph two should support the topic sentence. A topic statement directly states the focus, direction and purpose of a given paragraph. This kind of sentence is used to make the idea presented in the paragraph clear and concise.
A good essay would have one of the three types of support: Logical reasoning, examples from personal lives, and specific details. The topic sentence should include all the three types of support to get maximum score on the SAT Essay writing section. Paragraph three should support a different or opposite perspective. Again, it should begin with a topic sentence. In short, this paragraph would cover an altogether different perspective from the one discussed in the preceding paragraph. Why? This is because SAT essay graders look for more than one perspective on a particular topic.

Essay Editing

The objective of essay editing is to transform an essay into a well-structured, concise, and logical essay that earns top grades. In the case of admissions essays, the goal is to earn a letter of acceptance from the college or university. Students are required to write essays all throughout their academic careers. They are taught to compose coherent, well-organized essays with a thesis statement and relevant supporting details. Essay editing services can be the bridge between mediocre writing and superb writing. Essay editors for hire have gained in popularity among students of all ages.
Professional essay editing services create flawless academic compositions worthy of high praise. The process of essay editing does not include writing the essay from scratch. Rather, it is a process whereby all errors are done away with leaving clean, clear, and concise compilation that presents information systematically so that readers feel interested to read on. Every sentence must be structurally correct and transition to the next. Word selection and sentence organization is a priority. The tone must suit the purpose and audience.
It is advisable to carry out the task of editing an essay several times or, better yet, hire an essay editor. The author is the first person to do it, but he or she is likely to overlook the mistakes he or she has made. Peers or members can attempt it too, but probably lack enough expertise and experience. This leaves little option but to turn to professional editors who have both experience and skill to convert the paper into a masterpiece. The common areas that most writers falter in are grammar, tense, punctuations, coherence, spellings, and tone. All of these can be eliminated easily by specialists who are well versed in the chore.
Essay editors can retain their clients’ thoughts and main ideas and strengthen them through essay editing. They are only required to be articulated in the right way. This implies that the editor has to work in close collaboration with the author, going one step at a time, creating numerous drafts of the same piece of academic text. The entire job sounds daunting, but can be simplified using the many features of a good word processor; spell and grammar check, track changes, insert, delete, and justification to name a few. Essay editing is an indispensable part of writing an essay. It requires a keen sense of observation and a sound knowledge of the intricacies of academic writing. What Are The Major Advances In Essay Writing Software

The essay writing software that is in the market has been seen as something that is little more than a glorified word process expect for the past few years. Some of the changes that have been seen, have been not just in the word processing, but also in the added functionality of the essay writing software.
Some of the more advanced essay writing software that has been seen has had most or all these functions:
- outline creator
- variant essay templates
- built in dictionary in multiple languages
- built in thesaurus in multiple languages
- update plug in options
- various print out options
People have seen the implications that these add on have made and the one that has been the biggest has been in the price. Many of these programs can cost two or three times what the cheaper and more mundane essay writing software can. This is where a person has to consider if the investment is worth it or not.
Some of the essay writing software brands that are in the market have started out in this market and they have only the essay writing program as the foundation of the brand and the software is the standard that the company stands by. This has been known to either make or break a company that is trying to make a name for it self.
The thesis writing software has made a number of advancements and many of the companies that have been proven to be quality programs have been striving to take it to the next level. This has been something that has made more people and companies take notice in what the software has and will have to offer to the program owner.
Many have seen the essay writing software as a means of getting what they need done and if the person wants to get one. They should be sure that they are getting the one that will not just get the job done, but also the one that can make a difference that would not be there otherwise. If they overlook this then they are just wasting their money and the time that they have to take in learning the program and in using it to make the essay a reality.
